Stalin's Daughter Has Died

Said the radio.

Her name was Lana Peters, also known as Svetlana Alliluyeva.

Would she have had more freedom from her father if she'd been a man?

Time: 8:30am

how is this an "oh for fuck's sake?" moment? i'm pretty sure that any kid stalin had would have gone through life being identified as "stalin's son" or "stalin's daughter". you're diluting the thrust of your blog!

I just had this feeling that instead of the news going, "Stalin's daughter, blah blah, [hername]," it might've gone, "[hisname], Stalin's son, blah blah." If you follow me.

It's the first time I've heard of her and it just made me sad so I felt moved to write. But you're correct, it's not a good example for this blog

okay, i do see what you mean. i still think that, had he had an equally obscure son, it would have been "stalin's son, blah", just to put the attention-getting hook up front.

My grandfather, Thomas Mayer, was well-known in his home village (editor for the local paper). His son, Peter Mayer, was independently well-known (local politics), and is referred to by those generations by his own name.

My mother is "Thomas Mayer's daughter" (or, depending on the generation talking, "Peter Mayer's sister").

My dad? Is "Thomas Mayer's daughter's husband".

UUCP names still exist.
